Volendam is the picturesque Dutch fishing and cheese village. Volendam is village that hat dam (barrier built along Holland to hold back sea water), Vollendam, which literally meant something like 'Filled dam'. It is a well known for its old fishing boats and the traditional clothing still worn by some residents.
